Mayoral candidate Keith Van Winkle announced at a press conference today that he was dropping out of the race of Mayor of Myrtle Beach.
Van Winkle said we was dropping out of the race for the "greater good" because the more candidates running, the higher the chance current mayor John Rhodes would have getting re-elected.
Van Winkle then endorsed former mayor Mark McBride and said he was the best man for the job.
McBride served as mayor for one term and lost re-election to John Rhodes in 2005. Van Winkle made an unsuccessful bid for Horry County Council in 2008.
Several recent polls show McBride with a lead decent lead over Rhodes. The election will be held November 3rd.
