I'm not sure if this is the right place for this or not.

Has anyone ever done the helicopter rides in myrtle beach?? When i was there a few weeks ago, I really wanted to do it, but my fiance refused.

I was just wondering if it was cool? anime-thinking.gif

Funny you should ask. I was just talking with RDonevant about this today! We're going to take photos of Myrtle Beach Resort (hopefully) and I mentioned a helicopter shot. From what she said, one local carrier does flights for $20 but she said it was only something like a few minutes. I'll have to look into this more. I'd really like to get up there and get a bunch of photos.

Yeah, the signs i saw were for $20. I'd do it, even if its just a couple minutes. I'd be so neat to see everything from up there!

When I say a couple of minutes. Rdonevant said something like 5 minutes only. I'm note sure though.

Like I said, I'm not sure it that's accurate. I'll see if I can find out more tomorrow.

At Huffman Helicopters at the MB airport on the Kings Hwy. side, the people who advertise $20 helicopter rides, when you arrive, they immediately tell you, "oh, you don't want that one, it is only up then down". They completely discourage that flight. The next step up is 5-7 miles which lasts about 5 mins. It is $39.95. From there the time increases slightly while the amount increases drastically. I know this because when we were there last week, we took Andrew to do this.

Ever since he could talk he has been fascinated with helicopters and airplanes. We thought, Jeff, I and Andrew could take a helicopter ride for $60 total. Yeah right.....as a matter of fact, one of the pilots came in as we were trying to decide which flight we would take and told his wife (the sales lady) "as long as there are no more intros". That was pretty rude knowing we were standing there.

Anyway, because flying up and then flying down is pretty lame, even from a 4 year old's perspective, I decided not to go on the ride so Andrew could enjoy his 1st ever helicopter ride. So, $39.95 gets you 5 mins. and takes you up to the Pavillion. Multiply that by 2 and you're looking at $80 plus tax for 5 mins and you get some magnificent views of the Pavillion area and Ocean Blvd.

Yeah, I know, wwwwaaaayyyyy too much, but to a 4 year old that 5 mins was like an hour and he loved every minute of it! Rarely are there moments where he is speechless! I really have to get our photos posted so you can see my little man in his helicopter ride with a headset on...priceless!

Oh, Becky and Raymond, I have some amazing photos of the MBR. Becky, would you like me to email them to you?

I still want to do this next year. I know it's expensive....perhaps parasailing would be a better way to go. Any veterans of either form of entertainment out there?

Oh Phroggy you would love parasialing. As long as you do it on a sunny day you will have a blast. If I were you go to the one right in froont of the family kingdom waterpark bc they have one of the best reputations in area. They are on the beach right in front of the slides beside the marsh area. They charge I think 90 for two people together but that is 10 mins and its so much fun. I loved doing it last year and the dipping your feet is so exhilerating.
